Trustees Needed!

Kairos WWT is looking to recruit volunteers to join the Board of Trustees. We would welcome applications in particular from applicants with experience/expertise in finance.

Working as a Trustee will enable you to use your professional skills to support Kairos WWT’s important work, including:

To ensure the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law etc.

  • To contribute to the board of trustees’ giving firm strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance.
  • To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation
  • To ensure the effective and efficient administration & Financial Stability of organisation
  • In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions.

Trustees are expected to attend monthly meetings (held on Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 7-9pm in Coventry), and also be available by email in between meetings to discuss the day-to-day workings of the charity, as and when the need arises.

‘Every decision that is made at Trustee level at Kairos WWT has real consequences for the charity and thus there is an important feeling of connection with the charity’s aims and objectives. This, coupled with the opportunity to work with like-minded people who are passionately committed and giving their time freely, means that joining Kairos WWT as a Trustee is also joining a community who are committed to a common cause. The feeling of connection, community and the chance to use professional skills in a volunteering capacity – and thus having the potential to positively affect someone’s life – is very rewarding.’ (Jane Osmond, Trustee and Volunteer)

Some Kairos News (well it’s about time!!)

It’s been very quiet around here of late….but the good news is that it’s because we’ve been working so hard!

The last few months have seen a new member of staff, our AGM and becoming a Company Limited by Guarantee, a parachute jump (!!), a fun filled summer programme, a glass-painting course and giving quality support to many women in need. You can catch up with all the latest news via our Newsletter.

We’re also on the look out for more trustees to join our Board and hope to recruit volunteers with skills in finance, public relations, human resources or project management. If you think this could be you and you’d like to join our organisation, please drop Lucia a line on 02476 559550 or lucia@kairoswwt.org.

food appeal

Thanks to the support of local churches and individuals, Kairos has been able to provide a food bank for our service-users to access in times of need. We are now running low on food and ask anyone who can help us to restock our cupboards to contact Lucia on 02476 559550 or admin@kairoswwt.org.

We are in need or tinned and dried goods (including rice, pasta, cereal etc).

Thank you.

Volunteers walk the Mercia Mile with a smile!

On Sunday 23rd May, the hottest day of the year so  far, 19 Friends of Kairos and a dog participated in Coventry’s Mercia Mile to raise money and awareness for the project.

With the slogan ‘Don’t judge someone before you’ve walked a mile in their shoes’,  volunteers, staff & supporters walked the mile with custom made t-shirts and decorated footwear that highlighted some of the barriers Kairos service-users face. These barriers include: exploitation, abuse, poverty, debt, Substance abuse, fear, loss of confidence, mental health issues, prejudice, and exclusion.

Walkers had a really fun time participating in the Mercia Mile and next year there is already talk of doing the Coventry Fun Run next year and walking further…maybe by 2012 we’ll be running the half marathon!

BIG thanks go to our fantastic volunteers who took part in the event:

Helen, Sarah L, Janet, Katrina, B, Shamillah, Sharron, Becky, Jane, Amy, Barbara H, Tina, Sarah E, Jack, Beth, Suzanne, Lucia, Dave, Dudley

We did it!

And to the wonderful sponsors who supported us.
